The System Administrator will manage all platforms - both servers and desktops (i.e. Linux, Windows and Mac OS), in Hamilton. In addition, the System Administrator provides technical support to remote users login from client sites. The current environment consists of Linux servers and multiple Windows servers. This person is also responsible for enhancing the current infrastructure and implementing all new technology requirements. The System Administrator is an integral part of the budgeting process for all hardware and software purchases. This position requires the candidate to have excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as the ability to stay focused on multiple tasks.
Responsibilities:
- Maintenance and enhancements to infrastructure scripts and programs.
- Evaluate, develop, and implement new system and network Infrastructure products and services as required.
- Document and implement new policies and procedures as required - including communicating these to all affected.
- Maintain Sys Admin group's documentation web site.
- Create Purchase Orders as needed for software and hardware acquisitions for the platform.
- Project related work and documentation
Requirements:
- B.Sc. in Computer Science or Computer Engineering preferred, or equivalent experience
- 2 - 5 yrs experience in administering a network
- Experience with and a solid understanding of Linux, Windows 98/NT/2000/XP and Mac OS operating in a switched Ethernet environment
- Experience with TCP/IP, and network device connection in a Ethernet environment.
- Experience with SonicWall firewall, SSH, VPN setup, SSL
- Experience with web server management - IIS, Apache
- An understanding of Cisco switches, routers and firewalls would be an asset.
- Experience with database of Oracle, MS SQL Server, MS Access and MySQL
- Programming Languages: VB, VBScript, SQL, HTML, JavaScript, C
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- The ability and desire to devote to health information environment
Our Technical Environment includes:
- Linux, Win 2000/NT/98/XP, Mac OS 9/X
- Apache, and IIS web servers
- SonicWall FW
- MS SQL Server 2000
- JAVA, VB, VBScript
- ASP, ODBC, JDBC, JSP
- Ethernet connection
Since the position is funded from a time-limited research grant, it is offered as a part-time 6-month contract.
