1. Summary of Position
• TNS Smart Network Inc. (TNS) and its subsidiary companies Smart
Processing Solutions Inc. and SPN Inc. are aggressively marketing
both their processing and consulting services as well as their
software products throughout North America and Internationally.
Customers are primarily engaged in processing financial
transactions, operating ATMs or POS devices, or issuing payment or
banking cards.
• TNS has a team of in-house software developers, an in-house sales
force, a 24/7 customer service group and in-house LAN Administration
staff.
• TNS maintains both a public Web presence and a private Web portal
through which TNS customers can access and manage their services.
• The Junior Programmer will be responsible for working in a team
environment to complete a wide variety of product enhancements and
standalone modules. Most projects will consist of small-scale
software 'plug-ins', designed to add functionality to our core
products.
2. Nature and Scope
• The position reports to Vice President, Technology.
• The Junior Programmer will be located at Head Office in Toronto.
• The Junior Programmer provides the software development knowledge
and skills required to be successful in our environment, along with
a pro-active approach to problem solving, quality assurance and
bug/error tracking.
3. Measures of Success
• Measures of success for the Junior Programmer are;
- Successful and timely completion of assigned projects according to
specific project guidelines and requirements
- Successful testing and auditing of modules developed by other team
members
- Completion of clear, helpful documentation both for fellow
developers and end users.
4. Accountabilities
• Design, develop, test and certify new projects. This includes:
• Thorough approach to development and testing, including destructive
testing to ensure that exceptions are properly handled
• Creative approach to design, ensuring maximum re-usability and
compatibility with existing software modules
• Properly document all written code, and prepare user's guide
• Participate in planning and design sessions, offer feedback on
proposed work and be able to suggest alternatives
5. Qualifications, Skills and Experience
• Minimum of 2 years’ applicable experience.
• Formal training in software design and development
• Experience with object-oriented development, MDI graphical user
interface design, and multi-threading using .NET languages,
including Visual Basic, C# and ADO.NET
• Strong understanding of relational database design and
administration in SQL Server, including working with indexes and
stored procedures
• Communication skills, both written and verbal, a critical factor
• Ability to learn rapidly
• Personal Attributes – self-motivator, action-oriented, quick
thinking, possesses high levels of initiative and flexibility, able
to prioritize and multi-task but adapts quickly to change, good
interpersonal skills
6. General
• Must have a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Office
