More than three million students and teachers have participated in one or more TLP programs since its inception in 1993. As champions of public education in Canada, we strengthen our programs through research on best practices and policy discussions.
Position Description:
The General Accountant reports to the Director, Finance and Administration and is responsible for providing key financial and administrative support services to The Learning Partnership as well as specific programs where required.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Financial:
• Monthly financial statements – preparation of draft financial statements in a fund accounting environment.
• Prepare and record all recurring monthly journal entries including cost allocation entries.
• Reconciliation of all GL accounts, including bank reconciliations.
• Prepare other account analysis as requested.
• Recording of all cash receipts.
• Processing of all statutory government remittances.
• Assist with the year-end processing, and preparation for the annual audit.
• Assist with the yearly budgeting process.
Payroll:
• Processing payroll through external payroll service.
• Ensure government remittances processed timely and correctly.
• Preparation of year-end T-4’s
Accounts Payable:
• Processing all invoices received, matching to all necessary supporting documents enabling appropriate approvals.
• Preparation of all payments to vendors.
• Reconciliation of all vendor accounts.
Qualifications Required:
• Post-secondary degree/diploma at a University or College level.
• Enrolled as a student or graduate with the CGA or CMA organizations.
• 5 years related work experience, preferably in a not-for-profit environment.
• Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
• Adaptable and flexible to changing workplace demands.
• Organizational skills with the ability to prioritize competing demands.
• Demonstrates initiative.
• High level of motivation with ability to work independently.
• Good critical judgment skills.
• Must be able to work outside normal business hours as required.
Computer Literacy:
• Experience with Blackbaud and Raiser’s Edge software, or comparable database system.
• Strong computer skills essential, including advanced knowledge of all Microsoft Office products.
