OAYEC – The GO TO organization for Youth Employment Issues is seeking a dynamic, enthusiastic, team player with a passion for creating clear, accessible web content and a keen insight into how to serve at-risk youth. We are a non-profit, charitable organization in our 16th year of supporting and advocating for a sustainable youth employment delivery network. We believe young people should have access to holistic services that assist them in reaching their employment and life goals.
Position Summary
The Web Developer will conduct preliminary research through consultations with Job Connect deliverers – identifying service gaps and building a comprehensive plan to develop content that is highly targeted, relevant, and useable. This content-driven project is youth focussed and the Web Developer must have experience in writing for the web, preferably to a youth audience. The Web Developer position demands a highly flexible individual with excellent interpersonal skills, research ability, strong written communications, and sensitivity to issues affecting at-risk youth. The Web Developer has the opportunity to work together with youth employment counsellors and job developers to construct creative online solutions for youth facing multiple barriers to employment.
Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Senior Research Analyst, you will:
Conduct consultative research with member centres to identify service gaps and work together to generate content that addresses the needs of youth and their counsellors
Execute Internet environmental scan on other youth employment and apprenticeship related websites
Create development plan for a youth-focussed section of existing website
Create youth content that is relevant, clear and usable
Work closely with web designers and IT department to implement development plan
Work within specified timelines and report regularly to supervisor and funder
Participate in team meetings, planning sessions and other duties as required
Qualifications:
2 years experience in web development, web design, or web production
University graduates preferred
Knowledge of at-risk youth and/or youth employment issues
Experience in web writing for specific client groups
Experience in HTML, Java, Coldfusion
Knowledge of Acrobat, Dreamweaver
Superior communication and interpersonal skills required
Strong ability to organize, plan and multi-task
CONDITIONS
35 hours per week to start on or before November 1, 2004
Position duration: 5 month contract (with possible extension)
Some travel required
Salary $39,000 per year – pro-rated
