Mission

To provide timely and accurate record keeping and analysis for premiums, commissions, claims, expenses, payables and receivables to facilitate internal reporting as well as management of client and corporate accounts as relates to the insurance operations of Munich Reinsurance Company - Canada Branch (Life) and management operations of Munich Life Management Company Ltd.

Outcome 1: Banking Activity

The functions of this area will be performed effectively when:

All banking activity, such as deposits, cheque disbursements, wire transfers and deposits are prepared and processed in a timely fashion.
Cheque runs for claims payments are produced in a timely manner and supporting documentation packaged to ensure prompt review & signatory to enable prompt distribution.
Cash balance reports are prepared to enable effective management of short term cash requirements and investment opportunities.
Unique transactions/accounts are appropriately prioritized and reconciled in a timely manner.

Outcome 2: Investment Accounting

The functions of this area will be performed effectively when:

All investment accounting activity is posted to the Oracle financial systems in a timely fashion, based on information provided from other sources such as internal system reports and bank/trust statements.
General ledger accounts are analyzed and reconciled in a timely manner.
Unique transactions/accounts are prioritized and resolved in a timely manner.

Outcome 3: Premiums/Receivables Recording/Reconciling

The functions of this area will be performed effectively when:

All premiums, commissions and other cash flows activity for a select group of clients are recorded and matched to cash receipts in a timely manner and tracked by client by treaty/group.
Outstanding accounts and unusual accounts are promptly identified for followed up with the client and/or business line area by the Senior Accounting Analyst.
Unusual time lags or significant fluctuations in client activity are identified, investigated and resolved in a timely manner.
Any actions taken and potential impact on results are documented and communicated to management as needed.

Outcome 4: Premiums/Receivables Reporting/Analysis

The functions of this area will be performed effectively when:

Premiums/commissions resulting from the client statements are compared to and analyzed in conjunction with premium information being generated by other internal systems. Any significant variances are investigated and resolved in a timely manner.
Data for client accounts is compiled and reconciled for quarterly reporting purposes within the pre-established deadlines.
Support is provided to Senior Accounting Analysts in the review of quarterly accruals and modifications to accruals are accurately processed as required within pre-established deadlines for quarterly reporting.
Support is provided for ad hoc reporting requirements for various client and corporate accounts.

REPORTS TO:

The Manager, Accounting Services and works in partnership with other Accounting Analysts, Senior Accounting Analysts and the Manager, Financial Reporting as well as other employees within the organization.

PREREQUISITE QUALIFICATIONS:

Desired Skills & Knowledge:

Excellent communication and analytical skills.
Minimum 2 years of previous experience in financial accounting and analysis. Ideally, the previous experience would be in the insurance or financial services industry.
Post-secondary education and working towards a CMA or CGA designation (second level or higher).
Demonstrated effectiveness working under tight deadlines with multiple priorities.
Demonstrated ability to communicate with all levels of management and staff.
Strong service orientation and a drive to make a difference.
Demonstrated ability to use Microsoft Excel, Access and other computer analytical tools at an intermediate to advance level. Experience with Oracle GL, AR, AP and Cash Management modules an asset.
