organization mandated to improve the state of the environment by
empowering Canadians to achieve local solutions. Since 1991,
EDC has been coordinating Earth Day/Earth Month events, and
creating impactful, international award-winning programs.
The Web Design Assistant will maintain and update Earth Day
Canada抯 suite of websites under the supervision of the
webmaster. This involves basic HTML and CSS coding using the
Dreamweaver interface, and basic graphic production using
Fireworks, Photoshop and/or Illustrator.
Candidates must be currently receiving Employment Insurance (EI)
benefits or reach back, within the last 3 years with no HRDC
training. Candidates must complete a "return to work action
plan" (RTWAP) from a local assessment center / case manager
prior to participating on the Onsite JCP (contact your local
HRDC for closest assessment centers). You can submit your
resume if you are in the process of completing the RTWAP, but
please state this in your cover letter. Candidates who are
working more than 20 hrs per week are not qualified for this
program.
Qualifications:
University degree or college diploma in appropriate discipline
Basic website maintenance & design experience
Basic understanding of cross-browser compatibility issues (e.g.
IE vs. Mozilla vs. Opera)
Ability to hand-code HTML 4.0 and/or XHTML
Ability to hand-code basic Cascading Style Sheets styles
Good working knowledge of the PC environment
Ability to work independently without close supervision
Windows 2000 and/or XP
Microsoft Office 2000 or higher
Macromedia Dreamweaver MX or higher
Macromedia Fireworks MX or Adobe Photoshop 5.5 or higher
Ability to determine priorities, meet deadlines and manage
multiple tasks simultaneously
A positive and confident manner, collaborative work style and a
critical eye for detail
Responsibilities: Maintenance & updating (80% of allotted time)

Maintenance & updating (20% of allotted time) of:

www.earthday.ca/scholarship
Work closely with the webmaster to ensure work is completed
correctly and on time, and communicate progress to him and the
various program managers in a timely fashion.

Starting Date: December 6, 2004. This position is a 6-month
contract. Contract extension is possible, depending on funding
and suitability of candidate.
Remuneration: Employment Insurance benefits are enhanced to the
maximum rate (presently $413.00 per week). Experience?
