The role is for a Developer Relations Engineer within our Support Organization.
Developer Relations Engineer
The JRockit BL DRE role deals with supporting BEA customers on the JRockit Virtual Machine. The Backline Developer Relations Engineer (BL DRE) is a member of a strong technical staff within BEA Customer Support organization where the focus is to resolve the most complex customer issues and act as a conduit between the customer and BEA?s R&D organization. The Backline DRE will also act as a mentor to junior engineers and new. This position requires strong communication and customer management skills, as technical support at the backline level is provided to global customers with mission critical applications.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES - Be part of a team of engineers providing world-class software support to IT organizations and software developers across the globe on BEA products. -
Understand two or more BEA products in their entirety and demonstrate the ability to traverse software code to find bugs. - Engage third party vendors to assist in the troubleshooting process. - Clearly articulate to customers and BEA management a problem definition and resolution plan. - Act as a mentor to frontline support engineers by providing in depth training and coaching as needed. - Work with R&D and PM to contribute to product quality, product enhancements and product design decisions. - Required to analyze JRockit dump files, system memory usage and J2EE application code for potential problems. - Required Look at native code and be able to analyze operating system level issues. - Communicate with customers via phone and electronic methods to gather problem definitions, reproduce customer problems and provide solutions. - Some travel to customer sites for quick resolution to urgent customer issues.
Skills: Ability to work independently with minimal management direction. ? Passion for working with people, and a strong interest in helping BEA?s customers succeed. Very strong written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to speak confidently with customers, R&D engineers and senior management. Ability to learn new technologies quickly. Ability to multitask effectively and work well under pressure.
2+ years of C, C++, Java and J2EE experience is a must 2+ years of experience with application server technology. Experience with RDBMS like Oracle 8i/9i, MS SQL Server 7/2000 is a plus Knowledge of operating system flags and utilities for Windows and UNIX based systems. Knowledge of Compilers is a plus Educational Requirements: BS/CS or equivalent.
