Job Description:
Engineer responsible for control system development for locomotive engine, auxiliary and traction applications. Applications include diesel engine, phase-controlled rectifiers, cycle skippers, choppers, inverters and motor controllers. Responsibilities include design, implementation, integration and validation of controller systems and ownership of product field reliability for both control software and hardware. Tasks may include requirements definition, electrical equipment analysis, reliability analysis, hardware functional requirements definition, algorithm definition, modeling and simulation, design specification, control block diagram/software implementation, test plan development, test execution and field support. Integration with of control design with sub-systems and sub-system designers is critical. Efforts will drive increased performance, reliability and reduced cost.
Candidate Specification Criteria
A. BS Electrical Engineering B. MS Electrical Engineering preferred C. 1+ years experience in control system development. Experience with control of one or more of the following is preferred; diesel engines, converters, choppers, inverters, cycloconverters, phase controllers, thyristors, GTO's and/or IGBT's. D. Experience in modeling/simulation using tools such as Matlab Simulink, Sabre, Pspice E. Experience in control model auto-coding and/or C/C++ software development. F. Experience in system level validation testing G. Ability & willingness to work “hands-on” on locomotives and in test cells with high power, high voltage applications. H. Desirable to have experience with transportation/locomotive auxiliary or traction equipment, systems, protection, design and test I. Desirable to have knowledge of Six Sigma and ISO 9000 J. Accomplishments which reflect teamwork, leadership, integrity, accountability and speed.

Job Description
A highly motivated and experienced Controls Design Engineer for the design of key Locomotive Control Systems (Auxiliary Power Controls, Cooling Control System, and Traction Control). Engineers in this subsection use modeling, MATLAB/Simulink simulations, Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) statistical tools/ methodology and state-of-the-art software design/validation processes to produce control systems and software that meet robust performance and reliability goals. Major activities include: subsystem control and software design, design specifications, validation test procedures, validation and field support. Position requires frequent interfacing with organizations including Locomotive Systems and Tests, Engine Systems, COE's (Centers of Excellence), Field Service and Customers.
Candidate Specification Criteria
(A)Minimum, BSEE with 4 years experience. Advanced technical degree desirable. (B)Knowledge and experience in control system design and analysis including closed/open loop control, & state machine design. (C)Experience in detailed design process including Requirements Definition, Design Documents, Test procedures, Environmental/Reliability Qualification testing. (D)Knowledge and experience in Modeling/Computer Simulations and the use of a state-of-the-art simulation package desirable. e.g. MATLAB, MatrixX, and automatically generated source code. (E)Demonstrated application of Six Sigma design processes and tools desirable. (F)Strong communication and demonstrated ability to work in a multi-disciplined team environment. (G)Willingness to work on Locomotives to troubleshoot and develop designs. (H)Accomplishments that reflect teamwork, integrity, accountability and speed. (I)Working knowledge of high level programming language C/C++ or equivalent.
