C100 Hardware and Software Support Specialist
DEPARTMENT/DIVISION
Services and Operations/Management Information Systems
DUTIES
Reporting to the Manager, Information Systems, MIS, the incumbent is responsible for implementing solutions and technologies that meet the Library's Technology Plan and electronic information needs. The specialist is a member of the MIS team, which provides support for Network/Desktop Operating Systems and communications infrastructure. (With an emphasis on supporting the ERC centres.)
RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides system wide network and desktop administration and application support:
$ Adds, moves, changes, deletes users in network/desktop Operating System and E-Mail.
$ Installs, troubleshoots network/desktop applications for staff and public.
Provides system wide communications support:
$ Installs, troubleshoots hubs, switches, media converters, modems, cabling and other communication equipment.
Provides help desk service:
$ Responds to and resolves help desk requests in a timely fashion.
$ Provides hardware/software and peripheral support to staff and public.
$ Ensures timely operation of daily routines such as file backup, printing reports.
$ Provides support in the daily operation of the Automated Collection Management System (ACMS).
Develops and maintains Geographical Information System (GIS) functions.
Monitors and analyzes system indicators for measuring system performance.
Produces data and statistical reports as assigned, including those used for services assessment.
Writes and edits technical documents such as system documentation.
Arranges for and provides training sessions to staff on applications and related skills.
Participates as a member of a technical team advising the Manager, Information Systems, regarding the application of information technologies within the library system, including development of policies and procedures; identifies required changes and modification to policy as necessary.
Upgrades skills to meet the needs of the London Public Technology Plan. Remains current on trends, issues and changes in the technology.
Performs related duties as assigned.
A college diploma in Computing Technology, or equivalent combination of certifications and/or experience.
Experience in providing technical support/assistance in LAN/WAN helpdesk environment.
Proven experience administrating network operating/e-mail systems and desktop operating systems.
Understanding of network concepts with respect to IP addressing VLANS.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills, strong service orientation.
Valid driver's license.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
CNA (Certified Network Associate) equivalent experience.
Expertise and proven ability in basic network administration.
Experience with database/spreadsheet design for statistical reports and graphs with Unix based database and GIS systems.
Experience troubleshooting Network Operating System LAN/WAN environment.
Expertise in Windows NT and Windows 2000.
SALARY
$38,631 - $50,893 per annum ($21.226 to $27.963), depending on experience and qualifications.
Section 3 under Letters of Intent in the Collective Agreement states “Whereas the parties realize that the work is not “core” and that the related services which are provided to the public are contingent upon funding by Human Resources Skills Development Canada (HRSDC), the continuance of any or all such positions is subject to the annual availability of funding.”
