Job Description
•Working as part of a larger team you will be considered a SME in middleware platforms and provide expert technical administration for the organization’s enterprise application infrastructure. You will ensure that application systems in operation are technically sound, have the appropriate levels of availability, resiliency and performance characteristics. To that end , the senior member of this team will:
•Provide technical leadership and perform highly complex middleware and system administration activities including design, installation, configuration, tuning and production support for third-party and in house application environments in coordination with development, infrastructure and vendors.
•Work with development teams, infrastructure teams and vendors to develop and support middleware system design and operating standards for various environments with alignment with Enterprise Architecture.
•Identify initiatives to improve middleware systems, practices and production support to inform IT strategic planning.
•Contributes and leads the design and ongoing improvement of ITSM processes including: configuration management, alert management, release management, incident management and change management for the middleware group.
•Drives the system documentation practices and system run book maintenance.
•Proactively ensure appropriate environments are performing optimally through accurate monitoring and automation capabilities.
•Performs tracking and trending of problems and works to minimize recurrence of failure.
•Ensures that effective security, integrity and recoverability are in place at all times and are aligned with the needs of the business
•Provide advanced technical support for problem diagnosis and liaise with other departments where necessary, to ensure all problems are resolved professionally with the objective of minimizing business, operational and service impact.
•Keep abreast of developments and emerging technologies through various means.
•Perform routine and emergency (on call) after hours work as scheduled or required.
Qualifications
As a Middleware Support Specialist you thrive on a fast paced environment and bring the following credentials to the table:
•Financial services, banking or investment industry experience A MUST; coupled with 10+ years IT experience - 5 of which are specialized in the support of third party and/or middleware application platforms.
•Experience in enterprise wide, large systems environments (i.e. 500+ servers) with significant senior design, installation, configuration, implementation and leadership/SME experience.
•Ability to work On-Call and off regular business hours to support 24x7 business critical applications.
•Expert level knowledge with middleware and third-party application environments such as IBM Process Server, Tibco, MS IIS, MS Biztalk, Websphere and Platform Symphony, IBM MQ, and Apache.
•Excellent scripting skills with emphasis on automating and optimizing processes.
•Strong experience with industry recognized monitoring platforms (Tivoli, SCOM) - a plus!
•Strong knowledge of standard networking concepts (TCP/IP, Virtual hosts and HTTP traffic)
•Operating system, VM/ESX and database administration skills or experience also a plus.
