Position Overview:
The WAS/Portal Administrator works closely with peers and will be expected to demonstrate an expert understanding of all elements to successfully install, manage, tune, and resolve issues in a complex highly available environment. This position requires working outside business hours and needs to provide his/her share of on call duty.
Job Duties & Responsibilities:
• Install, configure and manage middleware applications in a Unix environment. This includes products such as WebSphere Application Server, WebSphere Portal Server, Apache Web Server, IBM Web Server (IHS) and others.
• WAS and Portal Administration and performance tuning
• Create, test and maintain standby environments to ensure high availability
• Conduct trend analysis of WebSphere Application and Portal Server performance and provide recommendations
• Identify, document and automate administrative tasks in order to improve processes and ensure better performance of environments under his/her responsibility
• Perform application deployments
• Act as a liaison with IBM technical support to resolve issues in the environment
• Provide technical coaching and developing of other team members in the area of expertise
• Provide infrastructure consulting and support to application development teams
Qualifications
Skills, Knowledge & Experience:
• Minimum 5 years of experience building, deploying and administering WebSphere Application Server and Portal Server solutions in a high-availability cluster environment.
• Certified IBM WebSphere System expert (preferred)
• Experience with high availability architectures and load balancing mechanism
• Expert working knowledge of supported technology (IHS Web Server, WebSphere Application Server, WebSphere Portal Server, MQ, SSL, XML).
• Expert knowledge of Unix Shell scripting, WSADMIN scripting including JYTHON.
• Experience, automating enterprise application installations and resource configurations using scripting
• Good understanding of Portal migration procedures (XMLAccess or WPS scripting interface)
• Knowledge of the J2EE programming model
• Troubleshooting experience of WebSphere Application Server and Portal Server and Applications (Analysis of JVM logs, Trace logs, native logs, heap dumps, access/activity logs, etc.)
• Experience and understanding of integrations of WebSphere Application and Portal Servers with Oracle database.
• Advanced problem determination skills to identify and resolve application server problems running in a complex cluster environment.
• Comfortable with working in a rapidly changing, technically complex environment.
• Proficiency with MS office product suite (Word, Excel PowerPoint etc.).
• Familiarity with the other Web and Application Servers, Workflow infrastructure
• Very good communication (both written and oral) and interpersonal skills
