Reporting to the Manager, Infrastructure Engineering Design the Technical Infrastructure Design Analyst is responsible to provide thought leadership for the infrastructure at Shoppers especially UNIX (Linux, AIX), Storage and Backup, Middleware and Data Communications. In addition, the Infrastructure Design Analyst is responsible to ensure that projects receive best solution design, implementation, deployment and transition to production.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Work with other IT Engineering teams to:
• Develop the best infrastructure design
• Recommend the infrastructure for the solution
• Install and configure the infrastructure for the solution
• Determine and pilot a deployment strategy and plan for the solution
• Define production operations and co-ordinate handover to Infrastructure Build
• Prepare and maintain thorough documentation of technologies, standards and procedures.
• Provide guidance and control to ensure that solutions are operable at the appropriate level and to optimize timing for new solutions designs and changes.
• Ensure that the infrastructure in use aligns to the business strategy and direction.
• Improve the management of the infrastructure environment.
• Evaluate complex hardware and software systems, preparing detailed proposals including recommendations
• Provide Level 3 support to internal and external resources to resolve technical and business problems as they relate to the Shoppers Infrastructure.
CONTACTS and PURPOSE:
Internal:
• Development Project Managers on a daily basis to discuss the progress of assigned project deliverables.
• Development Team Leaders on a daily basis to plan the use of appropriate technologies for the delivery of applications and to provide review of the proposed application architecture.
• VP’s and Directors of business units to apprise them of progress on critical issues. This will be only a few times a year.
• Other contact outside IT is not frequent and will be on the demand of development Project Managers for specific technical perspective concerning application design or business process optimization.
EXPERIENCE/REQUIREMENTS:
• University Degree in Engineering or Computer Science
• 4 or more years experience with UNIX (AIX, Linux) administration, installation and configuration
• 4 or more years experience with Linux (SUSE an asset)
• 2 or more years experience with Storage and Backup architectures (SAN, NAS)
• Experience with Websphere, Message Broker, MQ, WebLogic an asset
• Experience with retail or branch deployment architectures is an asset
• 3+ years of experience with large complex infrastructure systems
• Analytic, diagnostic and problem solving skills
• Able to work with minimum supervision, taking ownership for the successful completion of work assignments
• Detail oriented
• Self motivated with a strong desire to improve personal skills and knowledge
